The process until the final concept

I started developing this concept by making 30 idea cards.

This idea cards were focus in the supporters and most of them in mobile applications.

This was the direction that I decided to follow.

Some testing about branding. i started with the same " viforce".

Final logo for the application.

Represents better the concept.

So, I did some storytelling, trying to understand the details of the whole application.

Here I was focusing in a mobile application that was activated during some seconds ( singing when your team scores), so it was focus just in the highlights of the game.

Some testing of how the screen could look, with the " energy collected" growing.

I notice some mistakes.

The sketches dont represent the perception that the energy it is growing since it is darker or lights where it should be with stronger colours, maybe the opposite.

This is another screen that I did, where I decided to add feedback in order to make it more exciting to use.

The red represents sound and blue movement.

Testing how supporters feel like and colours.

But I felt that I was missing something.

Football is full of emotions, and those emotions can be translated into

movements and sounds.

Testing rythm and feelings.

So, I changed the storyboard, and instead of focusing in just the hightlights of the game and just sound, this application changed into the whole 90 minutes, measuring movement and sound that you produced whilke watching the match.

With this new timeline ( 90 minutes), we could have a bigger perspective, observe your natural behaviours and fair results since with 4 seconds application would be very easy to fake your excitment.

The movements were measured by the accelerometer and gravity sensor and the sound by the microphone in your mobile.

I analised gestures that the supporters does during the match.They jump, shake their legs because of the nervous, they turn to talk with friends, clap, and so on...screaaam!

Paperprototyping to help me understanding details.

I went to the Valerenga pub, and deliever some questionnaires to the supporters.

Here I understood that my target group had to change, since fans between 15 to 30 years old really liked and said that they would use and 30 up said that they wouldn't use.

Getting to know that service. Can be through the VIF website.

Or by challeging some friends to a battle.

I decided to observe a friend during 30 minutes more a less, and see her behaviours.

Has you can see, she screams more ( red) than she moves ( blue).

Some testing of the new screens.

Since it is a 90 minutes application, I decided to change the screen into a horizontal mode, because the user could have a better overview of what was happening.

This was the first idea of visualizing your sound and movement in real time.

You can see your real time score and your best score ever in order to motivating you to get even better.

The left screen represents the begining of the match and the right screen in the middle of the match.

More testing with the different background colour.

I decided to keep with the back background because you we are use to white background and since it is black the user might feel that it is in a different mode. The user may feel more intense and focus.

Testing the mobile detecting your movement and sound in different scenarios, since the user would never be holding the mobile during the 90 minutes. So, even if it is in the pocket it detects.

The final screen.

In the end of the game, the users are able to see their perfomances, comparing with the others, the average scores and check previous games.

This is an example when the user selects his performances.

It appears int he same second that we open the feedback of our performance.

What we see is an overview of the whole 90 minutes and we see the grey boxes, that represents that begining, the break and the end of the game.

The red stripes represents the goals of our team.So then we can understand better why we were so excited ot not in that time.

If we touch our finger their it appears the exact minutes and what does it mean, for the first users.Next time you use it, you would know.

We see our overview of the 90 minutes.

That some seconds after transformes into a stroke ( so we know that represents our as we saw before).

And the whole vifgroup. Here we can compare behaviours and scores.

I decided to make the whole vifgroup overview lighter( since we want to focus in our overview) and with a bigger stroke ( since that line represents much more people together).

Some seconds after appear the feedback.

Comparing the final skectch and the first one ( right side). The final one transmits much more excitment, feedback, it is more clear the meaning of the different lines and more intense.

In the end of every match, there is a vif rank, which is a top 5 of the best supporters( most active). There is a reward directly from the team to these 5 fans. The reward can be to get to know the members of the team or a free ticket for the next match.

This is an example of an overview of the excitment during the match.

In this task we have to explore the potentials in social web-based compaign- application for VIF.

Arriving to the stadium. It is possible to get inspired with concerts, entertainment shows and so on.

Changing the context helps. I imagined supporters running inside this plastic air circle when their team score full of emotion and energy.

This exhibition remind me of when we play football games in Playstation, when we see the players in the game with the ball having a yellow circle around them to be easier for the player (user) detect where is the ball.

urban Experience

YDreams developed two interactive multimedia. Fans could connect to the Ball using their mobiles, or view real-time information on football news, weather information and access exclusive content related to Adidas sponsored players and teams. They could also test their speed skills by chasing a virtual onscreen soccer ball, or take part in a "cheer the loudest" type contest.

Multi touch table

For tomorrow morning, we decided to present a final idea for the multi touch screen table.
So this is my idea that we will discuss tomorrow morning before meeting at UIO.

I think it is very interesting to combine different aspects of historical art, so then we can have a more complete overview. And since I have a bad memory and a good visual one, I consider this option.

So basically there is a multi touch screen table in the middle of the room of the National Gallery ( which today in group we discuss how much more social it would be in the middle and not in the corner of the room).

The user sees a map of the world that presentes the pictures that the room shows and around the world the inventions at the same time as they were made. This inventions are growing and changing sizes like if they were boubles calling attention to the middle of the room.
The visitor sees a text saying "TOUCH ME" and touches.

After touching appears a option where the user can select the painting that wants to know more.
After this the user can get to know more about this painting by scretching the painting ( movement with the hand) or drag the historical inventions into the picture.

The rest you can see in the information underneath.

I choose the scenario where the room has impressionism art, so then it will appear inventions between the 1870s and 1880s.

I am sorry about the wrong information that the map presentes about the location of this inventions, but I just found American Inventions, so then I pretended that they were around the world just for the quick shetch.

User Story:

The pupils sees some data moving in the multi touch screen table situated in the middle of the room of the National Gallery. The team of this room is the Impressionism.

The fingers have to select one or more historical data that appears into the multi touch table. The historical data is dragged by the visitor´s hand into the picture that he is manipulating.

In this picture appears a second layer with the historical data that were discovered meanwhile the painting. The interest of the visitor grows even more.

To call attention the multitouch table has the historical icons in different sizes and growing like bubbles.

Action: the visitor has touched the screen.

Action: Drag the picture that the visitor wants to know more.

The visitor just drags for fun and learn the historical inventions of that time, manipulating the picture. By this, and since the visual memory it is more effecient, the user will learn not just about the painting, but the surroundings of it which will make the user understand more perhaps.

Action: drag and drop multi historical discoveries into the picture.

Action: By scretching the picture the visitor can have an overview and learn more about this art piece, of the layers behind the final painting until the first sketches( if there is).

Morning idea

This idea represents a way to warn people about the clime changing.
So the exhibition starts with a device in the visitor\s hand, and screens all over him.

The device has 4 buttons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

As the visitor in walking in the hallway of the exhibition, he\she clicks in for example the summer button, and all around her is summer, then clicks in winter, and all around her in winter, and so on.

After around 3 minutes of experience the device(which is programed for that) does not reponds to the user\s choice in the buttons.

And the screens starts to mix, in a very provocative way , different seasons and weather, and wind,and so on, Which representes the clime changing if we continue having the habits that we have until now. Int he end a very strong message would appear in white in a black background saying something like " We still have time to save our planet"..

Meanwhile in the exhibition, there are sort of physical objects for intance, a tree, an animal ect, and when the screens starts mixing the physical objects become an bad, old, dead version of what the user saw before, which will make the experience even stronger.

We could add sound and wind to make it more real.
Anyway, this is just the first discussion about this so we could develop much more discussing in group.

Going to the museum was very inspiraring, so we could put ourselfs in a visitor position.And I got some mroe ideas:

Scenario 4 -Art exhibition

This concept is through the iphone.The visitor enters in teh museum and selects the "Museum mode", so then the application is on. In this museum there is a sensor in every piece of art that it is connected to the iphone application.

In stead of having the audio guide always on, the visitor everytime passes through an art piece has in his screen the description and some interesting points about it.Here the visitor has the choice to look or not, depending if it is interested in more information.

Scenario 5 - Art exhibition

Footprint can tell a lot.If it is from a lady, man, young girl, from the shape we can guess perhaps the style,colours, and so on...

So this concept it is about leaving messages about whatever it comes in our head.
We have a empty painting, and an interactive floor that detects where you sent the message from your iphone application(rfid technology).

When you leave the room in the exhibition your foot print stays there and when a new visitor comes and puts his feet on the top of this previous one that left the message, the text that he wrote appears in the empty painting.

With the scenario that there is a lot of visitors, a lot of text will be appearing with the respecting footprints lightning.

With this, the new visitors that see, will get curious and they would want to try it.

Scenario 1- Art exhibition

The first idea is for children. Having a lot of young cousins made me noticing that parents most of the times that they want to see an exhibition they are in " serious porblems".
" With who can can leave her for some hours?Lets ask if she can stay with her!Oh no she cant today and the exhibition finish today!" and so on..

So I thought about for the scenario of and art exhibition, every painting could have on the left side a small screen with cartoons of the painting that the mother is watching( the original one), where the child is having a good time, learning,and the mother too.

Scenario 2 - Art exhibition

This next idea is headphones that normally and full of too much information that makes the visitor. sometimes get tired.

In this concept the user has the device that it is connected to the headphones, so then the visitor points in the painting which part he/she wants to know more about.

Scenario3 - history Museum

Thinking about the timeline that we discuss in the class, I though about a way where the user looking to a specific object could interact in a way that could give the timeline of the object.
For instance, if it is a glass, next to the glass would be a screen with a vertical layer which would be a screen that shows the "evolution of the object" from the left to the right.

About bookmarking in a museum, where the user could have the bookmarking as his personal overview of several exhibitions.
A way to attract the visitors, where instead of having the headphones, the paiting could talk with the visitors.
A room that moves, how could we play with the floor.
How could we give the opportunity for the user get to know more about the artist.
And the main point of our discussing was about " How can the information get to the visitors", which is where we are thinking about to work with.

ReadMe Jewelry tells stories about yourself based on the most used words and symbols of your SMS-comunications.

It is a jewelry concept that lets you decorate your personality with feeling generated forms and colours in shape of jewelry for the target group between 10 to 16 years old.

Every month you get a new jewelry. As the time goes by, you start comparing your life of feelings through the jewelry revealing your feelings and ways of communicating through SMS.

This was a task of 1 day, with quick ideas and fast communication.

"ReadMe Jewelry tells stories about yourself based on the
most used words and symbols of your SMS-comunications.."

The hard task of telling what is the product in one sentence.

This application starts registering words through the SMSes of your mobile phone:

Selecting the words that you use more during the month.

According to the parameters of ReadMe it detects where does the top 5 words most writen fits in.

Which will translate into a pattern.
This next image shows an example of 3 months, where me and Synne did a scenario of a user breaking up with the boyfriend,where we have the happy month in love, a stressful month with lots of things going on and a depressed month( breaking up).

This shows 3 examples of patters that can accor.
We tried to work with shapes and emotions in order to give a story to the user( like a photoalbum but more personal).
The lines in a depressed month for example are more rect in order to invoke torns( which is something painful),all on the top of each other to invoke confusion and mess. In other hand, the love month has shapes much more soft, delicate and more control.

And this is an example of how the website could look:

For the presentation we tried to imagine this product in the stores, imagine how it would look, which was very helpful to communicate it.

One detail that I hate in different websites while I am signing in, is when I have to select my country and when I click on the letter "P", instead of showing all the "P" options on the screen ( image 2), normally it just appear the first "P" option and the user, me in this case, have to roll down in order to have all the visual on the P options( image 1).

Missed opportunities I find on Facebook, when we type a message to a lot of friends, and after sending we notice that we actually forgot a friend, so then there is no option to " add a new friend to the message".

My like goes to Hybel for the overview that we have of choices before seeing any house that we are not interested.

My first dislike is in Hotmail, when we start to write a email and the bar to write is actually in the email adress line, so I often make the same mistake of starting to write my email and after some words notice that i was not writing in the write place.

Another dislike is in AHO website, when we go to a diploma projects and we select one specific project, it is impossible to read the essay without having to go up and down the screen and with no feedback when we click in one page, so the user never knows if the computer assumed that we clicked already or not.

Sound Sketching Message

Song Sketching Message or SSM is an application for the iphone between 2 friends that likes to editing music and share, which it is supposed to be a simple and fast sharing tool.

With this situated software the users are available to leave comments and editing songs in a very simple away. The focus of this task was to show the functions of listening/reading the message (sms + lyrics/song/guitar) from the bandmember and giving feeback (editing and commenting).

This week our task was about "Information Architecture".

We start with an Introduction to IA by Are Halland where he show us some processes about surface, skeleton, structure, scope and strategy that were quite relevant.

Me and my college Fanny Monier decided to start this task( to develop an online TV guide an get an overview of 50 channels) observing and discussing the "pros and cons" about each website that we selected.

2 many step for the moment that the user opens the page. If he/she is in a hurry is not going to be very satisfied with this TVguide, and look for someone fast.

Too confused/messy, there is no emotional and physical connection between windows, too many tv shows on focus.

We really likethis detail of showing more informationon the right side of the screen. The user really knows very to look, clear and clean with the information that he asked. And the transition in quite interesting too.

It is a good point that they show the number and the name( not just the logo) of the channel, because then the user can recognize visualy(which drives to a faster action) and thename for users that do not watch much TV.
Another positive point was that between the channels we have diferent colours in the lines which gives the user a better absorvation of the information and not lose his eyes 2 lines or 1 line down than what he was suppose to be looking.

We really like the diference between colours, that the place to watch in actually lights than the rest, but when we looked for the second time we notice that the high of the columns are not set by time, which is very confusion for the user that probably will think the the top ones starts before.

About the time, we consider after some discussion about the many ways it can appear that it is confusing for the user to be present as "6more hours" because it make the user to think and count 6 more hours, in stead of the user sees direcly the hours and not to think mathematically.

Another point in this website was that the different categories are a bit confusing, showing a bad choice for colours, in our point of view.

There is no numbers or names of the channel so might be a bit confusing for the first time users that do not watch much TV. About the choice of colours, i like the idea of "degrade" because it can be more elegant and clear and a lot and completly different pantones of colours, but I think that they could be more diferent since I had problems recongnizing what was what.

task “Sketching with Time” and previous projects, and using the Frame by Frame program.

A good example of this last technique is the project “ Sketch a move”:

Sketch-a-move is a concept for a toy car that allows you to explore the unique relationships between small surface doodles and actual physical movements. If you draw a circle on the top of the toy car, it will move in a circle. If you draw a complicated spiral, the car will move in a spiral.

Evidencing really works…

In this task, we had to make an album interface that could support navigation thought a set of photos, using paper prototyping and stop motion.

I started making several storyboard, in order to imagine different features in this album.

I decided to make an Album for a touch screen, and my focus was to explore the movement in small transitions, concluding this task with an rich experiments of what results, what does not result in the user point of view.

Test 1:

So, my first experience was with the small transition of when the user click in an specific album and what happen, how does it move, how does the user has the perception that something happen:

TEST 2:

A way of opening folders. And in this test I have tried two different motions.

In one hand ( “test 2” ) is an experience more controlled of the organization;it does not seem random; the user has an better overview; there is a system; with the feeling of trust.

TEST 3:

On the other hand ( “ test3”) is an experience less mechanic/ rigid; more playful; more human in the way that when we have the physical pictures in our hands and we put on the table, they are actually in group, one on the top of the others and so on; everything at the same time with no rules where it reminds me to play solitaire when the cards are given way presenting a movement to show the user that they had been randomized.

TEST 4:

The feedback that I got after making this stopmotion were in two directions:

I had the sense that I, as a user, made a priority” I choose that one” so the rest disappears, but, it was stronger the feeling of losing something because of the falling movement, when the pictures disappear from the screen with the album that I was using, and the felling of losing folders that are quite important to us had happen to so many of us, leaving a feeling of lost, which is defiantly not a pleasant one.

So, if I would repeat this stop motion I would be more careful about leaving at least the main folder that I was working on the screen so then it perhaps could make more sense for the user.

TEST 5:

It shows confusion,chaos, and shows how important is to prioritize the objects on the screen, for example, how important is to make a different visual interaction between and album and pictures, how important is to make a different visual interaction when we click in one object. All the characters should have a connection, a combine emotion so then the user can understand by intuition what is happening on the screen, and not to lose time thinking.

TEST 6:

Maybe a better version, but not a final one.

TEST 7&8:

An more playful feature, how could the user could perhaps play while moving pictures to another place/ folder giving a path with the finger( drawing). And if the user would be in a hurry, could just make a strait line and drag.

Easyfind is a wayfinding service that allows the user to find their car within the context of a specially designed car park. This project focuses on the experience of finding your car in a complicated parking facility.

The main goal is to explore the ways for the people to locate his vehicle using NFC technology.

The investigation started with the interaction between several objects, ending with just the user mobile, user car, a lightning path and a the tag machine.

Dale Denda, director of research for the Parking Market Research Company in McLean says that “in the past 10 years or so, parking lots have become an paramount concern among city planners and company heads. Space is limited, and yet the demand for parking places keeps escalating therefore increasing problems arise of how to find your car in such limited densities without hassle.” Per Mollerup describes wayfinding as a “ spacial problem solving process”.Recognizing a wayfinding problem means realizing a will or need to go somewhere. This somewhere is a precisely defined location.

The problem is finding the way to where the user has parked their car. It is important to include all the activities directly involved on finding the vehicle. These activities are search, decision and motion: to seek, to decide and to move. In this project these activities allow for a simple experience. The user does not need to lose time remembering and thinking where his car was located.

The sensory channels are very meaningful in this project, since it is focus on the user. I was aware of the different categories of users, and adopted a more sophisticated approach towards their requirements. In Wayshowing Per Mollerup considers that “all users need the right information, appropriately communicated, at the right time and place.”How does the user read the space? What motivates the user? Does he assimilate every detail. The next step was to list to every kind of situation that could emerge in this dark place.
Since it is all about the user, it should kept simple.

The dominant form of interface will be through the mobile by having different places to tag will show the nearest lightning path to the users car. So, the user does not need to think, it is all about “going with the flow”.

The floor is by far the smartest strategy for finding the way in many situations. Resemble floor projects are used also for very different interactive directions. Like the sensitive floor from io. Inventing New Directions[3]designed to adapt effortlessly to different contexts so that they carefully ensure that the last result would be simple. It is an interactive video floor projection which reacts to the way people walk on it. Taking the floor[4], in the Museum of Emerging Sciences in Tokyo from the japanese designer Hinomura Massaki, where the wayshowing signage is situated on the floor which he converted into a game that requires all guests to participate. The game is a kind of hopscotch where floor signs define the choreography. This is a proof or evidence that long text on floor signage does not work.

In a totally different context, Hansel – one of the characters in Grimm’s fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel”left a path of breadcrumbs to find their way back when brother and sister walked into the dark woods. Today, many designers include metaphorical breadcrumb trails in their designs to led the user’s their way around. Another point about floor signs in that they are never covered with dirtiness or ambient issues, because it is inside a car park. Since it is important as an experience to be seen as a whole, the project encompasses different directions.

Seeking information(location) includes looking for and reading, the external information to combine with internal information. In other words, I am talking about needs. Where, when, how does the user need “this” information.

When the user reads some kind of information, it is important to connect all the icons and information when we want the feedback to be seen as direct, or almost natural. I did some experiments with shape, colour signs, position and so on.

The notable work of Lance Wyman in the revitalization program for the city of Albuquerque is very inspirational in the way that he connect parts of the city with signs which is easily recognizable for the user.

To be concise the project goals are:

·To find a simple way for the user to find his car.
· To create a understandable interaction in the whole service.
·Using NFC technology in the mobile to connect all the system.
·To localize the user all the time( having the perception where he is at).
·To create a system that is controlled by the user and not the system that controls the user.
·To find different ways of taking advantage of the service, that suits everyone.
·Adaptable to all kinds of situations in this context.

This car parking service would be designed for stadiums or airports, or shopping centres with multiple businesses.

All of us are used to see parking lots as a huge area divided into equal divisions identified by a personality colour-coded, letter, number, symbol, character which help to give character to an otherwise impersonal building. Colour is more visual and the allegiance of memorization of colors in generic terms is connected with the memorization of forms, mainly the reds, oranges and yellows, that are stimulators to the memorization.

Everyone is different and most of us don’t have identical ways of memorizing, it depends on the user`s background, their cultural and the way we were “taught” to read.

Everyday millions of users in West Edmonton Mall, Canada that holds the Guinness world record for largest parking lot, get lost and confused with the currently colour-coding system used that was supposed to be the most effective one.

When I started to design this project i left behind all these types of access that it is the most common way, and starting to think about it as an experience. Just imagine a huge and complex parking lot with any of this codes, a grayish one with a lot of colourful boxes parked having just the object that I really need.

The main challenge was to create a different and unique wayfinding system in one specific parking lot that was able to serve all kinds of audience and for achieving this, requiresto have a good quality and a sufficient planning in order to bring to a successful end.

For this, I combine two kinds of main experiences in this project. In one hand I have a system that is for the users that are used to go to that parking lot, knowing the physical space, or if they do not feel like going through the lightning path they still have another option. So checking the map is enough. On the other hand, I have the users that are totally disoriented and feel like going through the path that is fast, direct, enjoyable and efficient, or someone that just want to have an experience with joy.

While doing the project i considered that was a really relevant issue that the user could choose which experience he would like to have in his journey in order to see the service as something pleasurable and not as an obligation when you download the service into your mobile.

To be clear, the user/s motivation would be having an open system to find their cars that is serving them when they want, where and how.

How does it work:

To start designing the concept i went to several car parks in Norway, Spain and Portugal with different sizes, signs and systems, and made observations on peoples behaviours, paths, priorities, how do people localized their car and weak points of this place. I choose this context because it is a dark place, where user’s don’t expect anything to happen. With this service, this small part of each user’s day would be more enjoyable and happy, with colour and an effective system that the user just need to touch and follow the path on the floor, seeing his car with no worries, problems or even losing time.

I have been into very different directions, to give information to the user that this context place could offer me. However they did not result, however they helped me in this evolution of the concept.

I have tryied guidelines with different colours for the users, people may become confused about their direction and return to the point of departure. Also the registration plates were not a good idea because it obligates the user to pay attention to the floor reading very carefully the numbers and memorize it, and not everyone know his registration plate.

I believe having arrows, a pattern, having the initials of the name, a personal draw, and so on also do not work, reflected into a bad experience. Because a parking lot is used by several people at the same time, I had some problems having information focused on just one user, and how could the user not get confused, trying to simplify the service more and more.It needs to be something with more motivation, more enthusiasm, magical in somehow.

On page 51 of Wayshowing, Mollerup affirms that
“more than one guide line even with different colours
in the same place may confuse wayfinders.”

I considered having the path on the columns, but talking about experience it is not smooth because the information will be always jumping from column to column and the user looking in his eye`s level may become frustrated seeing many lights around him, which it is not the most pleasant experience.

The system to be “elegant” needs to be hidden somehow, so that the user would just see his own corridor.

All journeys are planned, more or less formally, in more or less detailed ways. When we plan a journey we often think about going to the shopping centre, going to the bank and so on, not going to pick up the car. It is an action that it is already there, in our system. Per Mollerup affirms that:” extensive planning for small trips may not justify the time that planning require.”

I asked to several people to describe how they would go about finding their car within a complex parking facility and the most of them considered it to be a secondary action, between two main actions of their journey. However, it is exactly this tiny action, now talking as user, that enables our everyday life to be easiest and hassle free.

Solutions:

I ended just with four interactive objects: the user`s mobile, the sticker(tag) on the car, the tags machine all around the parking lot and the lightning path.

As the project developed i considered it to be crucial to have two different kinds of experiences.

The choice between planning and finding is a question of personal preference, every user knows how they feel and what they want at that specific moment. Sometimes it depends on sense making, a deeper understanding of the problem that may demand intellectual effort while giving the wayfinder the freedom to choose preferred ways:

1) Tag the machine, having feedback and follow the path.
2) Tag the machine, having feedback and that would be enough.

The lighting path

Before I actually started to think about the lighting path, i made several studies based on car parking lay outs. How could I organize this space by not increasing the cost of the service.The organization of the floor inside parking lots is organized into parking spaces, which are generally marked with paint lines for each vehicle and driving lanes in between so that vehicles can drive into and out the spaces. Large parking lots have multiple lanes with rows of parking spaces between each one, with parking vehicles facing front to front between the two rows.

This pattern can show that the interactive path is strategically positioned to achieve all the parking spaces in the most rapid way, so the user just needs to follow it. This strategy chosen is about pure rule following.

An interesting experience that it wouldn’t reflect on the most positive way would be having the light controlled by the system and not from the user, so then the readers on every specifically spots on the parking lot system can detect the exact position of the user, reading the RFID tag that the user has in his mobile. So, it adapts to all kinds of situations that could emerge. The user controls the path.

To experiment with this concept I made several videos and more tests with the helping of the projector so I could decide on the best size of the lights, the space between, visuals, basically, the best way that the user could see them in the range of 1,50 m in front of him till 0,50 m on his back, and not having the light of the other drivers(cars and on the path) confusing the system

With this path that it is positioned behind, under and in front of the user he can always know which light is his in the most crowd hours, because the light calls attention.

With this material, I made some study cases of how the system would work in the several situations that can emerge in a car parking space, imagining always the worst scenario of confusion with babies, a lot of bags, some families and so on:

· What happens when the user finds his car? How does he know? What is the feedback?

The smaller tag machines

The smaller machines are strategically situated throughout the car park. A wayfinding friendly environment includes elements of repetition as well as variation, to ensure that the user always feels comfortable.

The function of these machines is for the user to always have the possibility to know where he is, never to feel insecure about this service. For example in a scenario that the user forgot his way(when he did not choose to have the path), or found a friend in the parking lot in a totally different direction. Or though he knew the way but does not, so instead of coming back to the main stairs, he would just come to this machines.

Users typically practice random seeking when they have lost their way and don’t have the faintest idea where they are. When this happens many try to find their way without logical reasoning. It is important that these machines are always updated with the new location to the user`s car, it becomes less precise if they are not updated when the environment changes. Not to increase the amount of money in this service in such machines we will just use the tag and some explanation for the first time user’s, having the feedback on the phone, the map and the starting path.

This map is a representation of the environment which includes the user`s internal information about the area, its features and their spatial relations. Recognizable features on the map can help to facilitate the comprehension and not confuse the user.

To achieve this final screen I went into different visuals and interactions combining colour settings, contrasts, informations hierarchy, screen divisions, zooming, deleting additional information, and so on. I made several experiences with videos and i ended with this screen, which I think that is well built with a nice contrast, with only the necessary information. Like Per Mollerup affirms on the second chapter of Wayshowing:” maps with more information can be less informative. Too many features confuse the map – reader”.

On this map we can see:

1 The light colours: All the information that will localize the users on the space.

2 The use of red colour: Just for the position of the car which is associated with the symbol “you are here”.

3 “you are here”: Symbol establishes their exact position.

4 Yellow line: After the user introduced that information, it appears in a very smooth movement a yellow line(which is visually connected with the yellow path on the floor that connects these two red main signs on the map, so the user knows where he is within the physical space.

5 Zoom: The user has the possibility to zoom in to become more clarified.

The machine that allows the user to start his own path is located strategically near the stairs and elevators, where the user would need them to find his car. This object needs to be visually recognizable from a distance. Their need to be a certain clarity connecting the language of the machine to that of the lighting path, through the user of the mobile.

The software is directly connected to the easyfind system, which reads the tag that is on the car to know the location and this machine gives the necessary instructions and directions on the screen, then the users require information from the environment, in this case tentionally.

This machine is rectangular in plastic and metal. The signs are contribute to the environmental connection. The interactions starts when the user touches his phone to the tag, having feedback to the screen. Here, i kept in mind about scenarios when the user may be carrying a lot of bags, that the user simply touch his pocket to handbag his mobile where his mobile is situated against the tag machine. Therefore he does not need to stop the action, and put the bags on the floor, take the phone and so on. The service would not be enjoyable but annoying.

About branding, one of the first questions that came up in my mind was the impact of the sign on the receiver. It is relevant that quality is clarity that makes the message easy to read and understandable. It is extremely important not to forget where this brand is situated. My intentions were to connect the brand with the service with pictograms their requires motivations and conventions .They should depict a concept in a way that intended viewers immediately understand.

I started to define easyfind and it helped a lot to remember what it means during this process. The word find should be stronger. I started with some circles icons quickly I understood that the understanding of the sign would be conditioned by the culture of the reader, although I felt this meaning was not clear enough. I should be a fast and direct action to connect the brand with all the system I choose to end up with the colour of the lightning path, that in someway they are very visual, giving an easy direction. I kept in mind that quality is legibility and tried it with different contrasts and positions.

The user meets the service through advertisement or through friends. After knowing about the service they can add it in telecommunications companies such as Telenor website, following the steps, and then the sticker is sent with the tag to put on the car. Or if the user would like to add the service inside the place, which in the entrance there would be a machine that the user can test the system.

The user touches the machine with the mobile ( so then it records the user`s mobile number, and receives the tag( sticker) to put in his car, where the information would be very clear.

After, the user receives a message from telenor, saying to send the word easyfind to that number to download the service which the user needs to do and pay. Then he just follows the steps on the phone and it is ready to use it normally

One more very important aspect it is when the user does not have the service and its at the parking lot.

There are two ways of adding the service:

After seeing the advertisement around the city, talking with friends, share experiences and feedbacks:

1- They can add by the website.Following the steps, on the telenor website.

2- Or inside the parking lot.

In the website i made all the steps, which there is too many step, should be more direct having the priority of download in big,the first thing that the user see.

I am going to change the structure and ass some images of the service and changing the brand. This is just how it would work.

( This is not the real colours, it changed).

So, then user goes the telenor website, to service, and then follow the steps, write all the things that the system needs to have( name, adress, mobile number and so on), to the system have and to send the sticker with the tag to put in his car on the glass( to the reader reads and know where the car is parked).

Another way is inside the parking lot:

In the entrance the is a machine that the user can test the system.

The user touch with the mobile the machine( so then it records the user`s mobile number,and recieves the tag( sticker) to put in his car, which the information will be very clear.

After the user recieves a message from telenor, saying to send the word " easyfind" to that number to download the service which the user needs to do and pay. After is just following the steps on the phone.

Another main aspect that I came with is that it is important for the user to do not feel being control, so it is of main importance to the user get somehow update of the time that it will takes, or where it is the starting point and the end point, which direction.
While I was trying this path I did not felt a nice experience in the way that I did not know if my car was a far, to the right ect…it is importante to the service “ share information with the user”.

I did some test to make the path and the system work just by having the phone, the readers and the tag on the car and I felt that the experience was not complete and maybe not having a specific point to start the path in comun with the other users, maybe it would be confusing for the service having always different starting points, and not real in somehow. The user should control the service and not the service to him.

This is an example of how it could look when a user meets another user.I think that the fact that the path has a stronger line on the first light of all the lights it can easly shows the direction to go and when meet another paths, the user still recognozise the line, and it is always behind him which helps a lot to know which one is mine or not.

While I was testing i tried with some different types of path, as dots, lines, mixing colours,
And I thing that this pattern is the one that works better because it has a specific point of light in the last lin, which I consider that is is:
1- Easy to recognize the direction.

2- Easy to recognize the line looking to the eyes level, and having the perception of which way to go.

3- Easy to understand when the user meets another user, because it is very smooth and continues, so it is easy to recognize which one is it is mine or not.

4- It is a “ good looking light” gives calm (because of being smooth) , gives confortable ( because of being clear ), gives security( because of being continues and always with me, no matter what my next action it is) , it works well, it is efficient.

5- I consider that it has a kind of magic, in the way that it is a different experience, following something that it is like a person, but that I do not need to talk and be social when I do not want to be because this action of finding my car it is a action between main actions so, it is supposed to be fast, efficient, pleasurable and clear.

A critic that I have do say in this testing is that the user should disappear from the screen, so that the scene it is complete and always the same size.

Last week i went to Lisbon, and i took advantage of the parking lots there, that are exactly what i needed, huge and complex.
I took some videos to understand better how the system could evolutes in different parking lots and situation.
One aspect that I notice that it is wrong is that the user never does all the curves, he just goes straight, which does not disturb my concept because the reader can read by some distance the tag on the mobile.
And of course the quality of the videos is not good, but it works for what I needed.

After that I started to think about every kind of situations and actions that might happen on a parking lot and disturb the orientation of the user, through the path of lights.
How do they look?
How does the user read?
How does the user understand?
Feeling comfortable or uncomfortable?
Pleasant? Relief? Disturbing? Helpful?
I came out with this:
1- A person going wrong on his way.
2- A user finding a friend.
3- The user changing direction.
4- A user playing with the path.
5- A user finding the car.
6- How do the user see the path.

So, i am going to combine the first part from the other concept, which i believe.

The user parks the car, and leaves going somewhere. Because of the sticker( tag) that he has on the glass of his car the location records automactually thought the reader and again, the tag on the car. So, it is a very natural movement and action, where the user does not need to care about records.
When the user comes back, i consider that using th machine just to tag is adding objects which i do not need in this service because i can just simple go to the application in my mobile to start the path. But maybe at the same time it would be more a full experience having a specific starting point to everyone where they tag just to start but not as a machine, but just the tag to " start the special path to your car".

I started to think too, but in a superficial way about diferent options to identify your path, to when people meet they do not get confused.

Ways of identification could be through:

The registration place(not a good idea, because it obligats the user to make attention to the floor reading very carefully the numbers and memorize it. Not everybody knows the registration place.
When the user add the service could have a spefic number of user(the same problem of the first point).
Having arrows.
Having small points that becames transparent with the movement, which it could lead me to somewhere because icould have my specific point very clear when more user's appear on my path.
Have the inicials of thename.
A pattern.
A draw that they could draw on the website i would be their identification.

After the workshop i felt totally confused, because it push me in a totally diferent way, and i consider that it would be even nicer if they woul have come earlier.But it was a really nice experience in a way that it helped me to think about in more situations.It helps a lot thinking about experience hooks.

This situations can b ewhen i am carrying a lot of bags, which is a usual situation, and when i forget recording the tag area, what would i do?I consider both situation crucial because it will reflect on the way that you see and feel about the service, with unconfortable situations and unsecurance.

So, i solve the problem of recording automactually, having a reader in every place to park(since this is a special parking lot), that reads the sticker(tag) that every user have on the right side of the glass of the car, that they recieve when they download the service by a website.

This reader has a movement sensor that reads the tag, when every new car parks automactually. The user do not need to do anything.

This readers are connected to a system which is connected to every user's mobile when they sign up.

So after the workshop, i sarted to think about my concept as an experience as they suggest me, which i believe that it is a good chance to explore this findability in a more ambitionally way.

I thought about the word PLEASURABLE and it can reflects in:

Do not need to think.

Feel some kind of excitement.

Somehow enjoyable.

And satisfation, on the way that at the same time the service is efficient and takes you to the place that you want to go.

I made a exercise to start having more ideas, just having the mobile adn the sticker tag at the car, so i haad mine locations and the car's location. Forgetting about colours, signs, numbers and so on.

The stronger idea was having a interactive floor, just with stripes strategic placed that leads you to your car, so the user just is being guide, just goes with the flow not thinking, not racional.I have tried with collums too but i consider that it is more confusing in the way that it is not a continuous as the floor can be, so i feel more confortable as a user being guide in a continuous, smooth way. It can somehow be more trustful and easierto follow.

So i made some first evidencing just to have the first impressions on how the user could feel having this experience. But i have not tried yet with diferent situations as when i meet more user's; when i first see the line on the floor, what do i feel?; whne i am on my way; when i find my car.

Just tried diferent spacement and size of the light, because i think that it can be a detail, of course but at the same time is this " line" that will lead me in this experience of finding my car.

Analizing all the images and feelings that the user can take i consider that this is the one that works better:

The user can have easily the feeling that s being guide through something that he does know, but something smart that knows where is his car. It is more smooth, more elegant and more visual, the user can easily play with the path, instead a bigger spacement of the lights that leads to insecurance, you do not see your exacly path, it is not continuous..

I asked to 2 friends to give me the feedback of how do they feel following this path:

Feedback: dificult to read with the lights of the cars, too spaced, the guide seems not sure about the path.
Feedback: pleasent feeling, trust the guide, specific, elegant, more playful with the position, confident.
Feedback: too childish because of the size, not elegant, too strong.

On the previous week, we had a workshop with Jack Schulze and Matt Webb.

Here, we worked around all the activities around ours products, services.

Each one of us had to make a list of experiences hooks which mine were:

When the user finds his car( pleasent feeling)
When the user forgot to record( tagging) the area where he parked, and suddently remebers that its automactually.
When a person is lost( doesnt have the service) and sees other user's finding the car very fast.
When the user sees the service for the first time.( curiosity, fall in love?wants to try.)
And, when the user is carrying a lot of bags, how to tag not worring with checking the screens mobile.
So, to answer this i started to sketch,every actions from the USER'S POINT OF VIEW, analysing each step, to achieve or trying to achieve the best solution.

Today i continue some research about wayfinding.

I did not know the work of the designer Lance Wyman, which it is very insteresting for my project because he has in his website a lot of his previous works as a student till now, and he works a lot with branding/wayfinding, giving some useful tips. Here a collect some projects that, even being just visuals are very inspiring and all the process that he took till achieve the final work.Most of this projects are revitalizations programs in cities, as Albuquerque, Hoboken and others.

Watching this project i just had stuck one more time in my head that every visual message within a wayfinding system should be able to communicate on its' own.

Now, not talking about wayfinding but interaction,i like quite a lot the way that his website is organized, as diferent colours, settings dates etc..

Another inspirational work is from Holmes Wood, specially the intervation that they have done is in Laban , the contemporary dance training in London.It is quite beautiful to observe how they combine the wayfinding to the rest of the building (arquitecture).Here is an excellent example of how wayfinding doesn't necessarily mean signs, but when they are needed and that we can work closely with the architects to make them a natural part of the building.

During this week i just had time to walk around the city and i went to a car parking with a friend as a "model", making all the steps, to have a diferent vision about the time that we lose, which servicesdo they have ( http://www.carpark.no/ ; http://www.europark.no/ ), but i had the language issue, that slowed down the process..

It helped me to make some evidencing and which options do i need to start to visualize the machines(about the payment machine i will work with Ingrid and Alice).I will still have the normal service to enter, recieving the card etc and this new touch service.The same will happen with the payment machine.

This two services are going to work seperately but at the same time they will be combined and help the user on his path inside the carparking.

On the week 15 i made paperprototype of the mobile's screen to visualize the service in another perspective.And i did not need to go that far to understand that i was complicating the service with a lot of steps,and not simplify it with a single touch.

While Mosse was trying, we recognized that i had several mistakes that i needed to improve or in better words, to change:

Simplify the screens,as more as possible;
Abord questions like, should this two services be together,or have totally different brands?;
Work on the reference point on the wayfinding for the car( big problem);
Know more details about NFC technology;
Graphics: should they be the same family?;

On monday's i made some sketches about some details in order to start developing the step where the user had parked the car and need to tag the mobile to record the area to do not get lost.I pretend to put some electonics and rfid tecnology to detect the mobile, so after some drawing i left the concept part and went to the workshop to start the pratical.

I made several finishings that i consider that could work inside the round form. Definately, this is the form that is more direct to touch in the center, maybe because of the edge's inexisting.To evoluate this idea i asked several people to measure the size of different kinds of mobiles and brands to see out it could work better.

Due to having different types of signs in my concept,i worked too in the heights that they need to have.In my research, i kept in mind about ergonomic's measures.

During this week i start working on how the tag object that we touch in order to record the area where we have parked should look.

It needs to be something very direct,clear and simple, so i start working on shapes and graphics that will help to understand the position to tag. After sketching, i definatly want this object to be a circle, it helps to have the perception of center the mobile and now be lost of where to touch.

Went to the workshop and start to feeling the materials and check what are the best to do it and prototype.I pretend to start builting several to check and feel the exacly shape and weight and apperance of course.

I made a list of what do i need to work in my service:

The interaction on the entrance machine(screens) and shape, measures.( i consider this type of machines a problem because we always need to put our arm vin not the nicer angle to be able to touch the button(that my service will not have) or open the car's door.

The object to tag the mobile to record the area we parked to do not get lost,with leds.And try to have an answer in the mobile.

To return to pay and know where the car is.

Signs.

To be able to do this i start making some research about ergonomics, the human sense, studies, and observing, which i consider to be almost the most important.

While i was out i observe how the tags points look to get inspired, understand the problems and how they work.Noticed that most of the people that use this type(in this case in teh metro) are quite used so it is very direct.

Observe carefully too the complexity of the signs at the aeroport are and how they look.

While i was explaining my project to some internacional students from Barcelona in aho they showed me the system used in Barcelona, juts to find the most near free space to park the car, and not to find it, but i found very inspiring.Last sunday, i have been to madrid, so i took some time to observe this service used in spain.

The ParkHelp system helps users locate parking spaces effectively using a system of guided information.
When a client enters a parking space, the system automatically guides the vehicle directly to the nearest free space, using informative panels indicating the direction that should be followed. In this way ParkHelp optimizes the management of empty spaces and minimizes the time that a client invests in finding a free space.
ParkHelp uses a series of informative panels, sensors and pilots lights, pass counters and management software.

Used sensors:

They provide information about the status of a space (free or occupied) not only for general use but also for disabled parking spaces.
The sensors work using ultrasound detection permit setting changes and responses to requests sent from the system and monitor the temperature of the parking space to detect possible fires.
ParkHelp offers also the possibility of an integrated Sensor-Pilot light.

Pilots lights

Function together with the sensors providing visual information about the status of the parking space using colour coding: green-free, red-occupied, and blue-disabled parking spaces.

Today, the workshop was very productive.

After a conversation with Tom, i understood how my system will work at the entrance of the car parking.

I need to code on processing that will transfer to the display, with the touch of the RFID tag that it is connect to the mobile.The next step it is to email or sms the mobile.

So, to start the process i put a tag inside my mobile to start feeling the interaction at the entrance in the park( where the user will touch the machine with the mobile that will record the hours of entrance in the park).The light is ON!!

Tomorrow i will work on the feedback of this touch.What will appear?Image?Light?What would be more trustworthy?

Prototyping plan

Coordinated wayfinding does not simply happen. It is the result of a structured planning process.
I am working one brief " RFID and the everyday".

Defining the problem:

In this project, i consider to have two main problems that i want to focus, that will lead me to future smaller problems with the evolution of the project.
The first one, is when we actually enter in the parking zone, when we need to take out the tickect that it is very tiny, light, small so, easy to lose.
The second one, is when we finish what we had to do there and he need to find the car.We usually get lost quite easily.

I am planning to ask questions in the future to go into more details like:
Defining the problems in a more detailed way?
Are there realted problems?
What is specific to this case in every steps and actions?
When must the wayfinding system be ready to for use?
Make attention to some economical conditions.

Gathering information:

I am planning to visit parking zone and consult users to determine all relevant information.

How exacly can i develop with concept?
From where to where will most wayfindings move?
Which kind of persons will use this?How?
Will some users have mental, visual, or other disabilities?
How will users reach?
Easier ways to read information and interact?
In which do people feel more secure?

Wayfinding strategy:

In this step i am planning to describe how to meet every information, in a more detailed way.

Planning signage:

Specify information, graphic, and physical signs types, and sign position based on the wayfinding strategie that i am going to use.
I will go into more details like:what messages are needed?Where are the messages needed?How show the signs be dimensioned, positioned, mounted and others?what should interactive signs and tag positions be programmed to do?

Designing graphics:

Here i am going to think about graphics in a more detailed way has the first step(that it is just the starting point). I will develop the type face, if it is with arrows, colours, pictograms,which forms?Design specifications of all graphic sign that i need to use.

Designing hardware:

For the evolution of my project, i consider to be more interesting to work in the next week workshop with Tom Igoe, with lighting.I want to focus on output and feedback, behaviours and maybe develop in a more detailed way. Try diferent kinds of blinkings, speeds, colours, timing, distance and so on as an aswer to my RFID tag.It will be very useful for the prototyping part. It will make me understand how people feel when they tag the mobile in different situations(when it is correct,loading, waiting,erros and others) and with this i can generate a better system envolving RFID technology in a near future.

Evaluating results:

After this week, i am going to evaluate all the work done in this workshop. Check mistakes and omissions that should be detected and corrected, in order to improve my project.

After a lot of headache, i had several ideas. Some of them can be easily made real and others not.

An object that could read the lisence plat of every cars, to help police. For exemple, the police car is in the street and just needs to point with this object that reads the previous action of the driver and check if everything it is ok.( every time that the police fine a person it goes to the system and fromt the system to the lisence plat of each car.)Maybe i am watching a lot of movies...

A service to find a dog. For exemple could be a little dog(robot) that could follow the track with the smell.

In the Apotek it is quite difficult to find the pills, it could have kind of robot the know the place of every pills, with his memory of the name of pills and placement).

Findcompabitily:A bench in the garden is very a contradictory object, it can be a very social place and a very lonely place. So i thought about puting tags there where we could leave messages with our interests, hobbies etc, and it could say the compatibility between persons and change color between the compability, if its high or low.Quite stupid...

I am going to show the more concrets ,more useful and that DO NOT MAKE ME THINK( as the title of the book from Steve Krug, quite inspiring).

Friendfinder:

Friendfinder is a service that help us to find our friends.

Imagine you are in a social event with a lot of people around, or a concert, or even a party. You went with this company, and some hours after you loose her.Then you get stress because or you need to leave,or you do not want to be alone or you want to say something important or whatever.

I thought about for exemple a bracelet that you say the position of your company is, but after a discuss with Mosse we agree what would be much more interesting just the direction or angle where my friend is.It helps a lot.

Yesterday's morning Einar present us more sensors to use. One of them were very interest and could actually fit very weel in this concept.The tilt swich. With a simple rotation of the sensor it turn off and on, just to turn up and down( the positions). So i thought about, instead having a bracelet it could be a necklace that we could turn off and down if we want to be find in the party or having more privacy.

This service could be used for mother that they could for exemple when his children is playing around they delimitat a distance that they can play and when they achieve that metros it starts beeping which calls mother's attention to say to them play more need her. And with this she can be relaxing reading her book without being all the time looking.

THE FINAL CONCEPT:

Wayfinding in car parks

Car parking it is always a problem.

It starts in the moment when we actually recieve the card of the park.It is small, tiny, light, so very easy to lose( which happens very often to me and a lot of people around me).
The second problem that i find here is that it is quite dificult always to find the exacly position where the car is. We are all the time around and around trying to remember where the car is.
I consider Parking being a very reach concept, because i can interact in very different directions at the same time:

Sinalizations( i feel very attach to the visual part of the products and services);

Tecnological part( the interaction between services, feedbacks, movements, behaviours);

Observation ( helps a lot to develop concepts in the certain context);

Concept part( feeling of the users, motivations, trends, evidencing and so on);

Research( existing research, people that deal with similar issues).

My concept starts with the entrance in a car park.

The driver, instead of being pushing the button and being waiting for the ticket(card) to be be print, that he can lose very easily, he just touch the mobile into this machine, that will record the the hours of entrance into the park.So he does not need to take care of anything and keep that in the wallet ect.

Then the driver continuous his path, he park in the place that he wants and then he does not need to memorize the area that he park the car. He just needs to touch the mobile into the nearest collumn, in order to memorize too the exaly position od the car. I thought about collumn because it is an " object" that every park has and there is quite a lot around this place, and it is not dificult to insert RFID inside(cheap).

After tag the mobile he just needs to continuos his day without worries, very relax and think about shopping or whatever this place is.

Some hours after, this user probably do not remember where his car is parked. So, he touch the machine to pay,here we have the interaction of payment that will be automactually or not( work in progress). This same machine, that has a screen, will say the exacly position of the car.

It is now that normally the driver will feel the lost feeling, and lose some time looking for his car and get stress, annoyed that porbably will change his mood for the day. This type of services should be Fast, easy interaction, clear, pratic, cheap service and direct.It is an a secondary action between main action of his dailyroutine ou relax programme.

To find the car, i thought about possible feedbacks that i could have to show the way:

Sound ( does not make sense)

Vibration( does not make sense)

Light

Information

Signs

Here i had quite a lot of ideas, and i am not sure which one should i choose, the one that fits better:

Or i could have a number in every collumn that could show me where the car is.When i touch the tag (in the payment machine), it would say the number of the collumn, and then i just follow the signs, like in the hotels rooms 200-210 that way and vice versa.

I like the idea of the numbers in the collumns but the sinalization is too basic, but it would work.

2. Is to put a tag in the license plat( that is the ID of each cars.Every cars has it and it is has a lot of potencial in terms of where to put a tag and find the car). But i am not sure if the material of them let me read the tag...

It could be connect with the mobile and say directions like simple arrows on the mobile of the screen for exemple.

3. Other is when we know which direction to go, based on the number of the collumn that appears when we paid, it could say the initial direction, like go to the left, just with signs, and then the user could have a personalized track that follows him and says the way a bit in front of him and leaves a rast( to do not confused the others, and have a lot of light).This service would be very expensive probably, not a good choice).

4. The collumn could detect the mobile and show the way, like next collumn start bliking, then the next then the next and so on. And with different kinds of blikings, because during this process some lights are for showing the way and the last one is to confirm the position of the car.

5. For people with normal mental ability, coloured lines in the floor can be useful wayfinding.But at the same time different colours give no guarantee that wayfinders will not becfaome confused, switching to a wrong track as a result, which i do not definatly want to. While i was sketching i thought about making lines on the floor ( which i think that would be the most lazy idea and more obvious), but because i can consider this a social place(not to stay and pass time ofcouse, but eventually people can meet talk it would be quite confuse.

Concluding this step of finding the car, i think the from all this ideas, the lights as feedback( that they would have different behaviours( confirmation, error, loading and so on...) and help with the connection between the service in the mobile and the tags that are in the collumns, it would work very easily and in a clear way. But, this step needs to be working in a detailed way, and this is just simple start ideas.

Because i am working with a "system" i think the it is important to follow all the steps while we enter and we leave the park area, and not just to find the car.

Reflecting about a drivers and find the exit, we can say that there is two kinds of driver:

the one that knows already the park ,knows the way to achieve the exit;

the one that knows nothing about this park, and« will just look for the signs and follow the right path to his destination(exit the park).

So, it is crucial that sinalization is well done and clear.

Some possibilities of wayfinding in a park:

1- Track following :

Following lines, arrows, or other tracks.I consider this the most basic way of wayfinding.They follow the track by using one or more sensory capacities( visable and sometimes tactile ). Yesterday i went to IKEA, and i found myself looking to the path.I know that it is a comercial strategie, very well done from my point of view. In this kind of stores the costumers needs to follow the path(that it is itself a track to follow), and they are supposed to pass several rooms before reaching the exit( the Goal). I found very inspiring to observe this because it help to get inspiration to the target that i want to. Ofcourse it is a totally diferent "wayfinding" because in a park from a large shopping environment for exemple, you donot need to follow this path, but your own path,Go back to the car and leave very naturally, easy and fast way. Finding our car in this context it is in a secondary plan, and it is not a priority, that's why i consider in my group of keywords "direct".

Using syllogisms ( normally it works by sense making, where we expect to find)

4- Interence:

Concluding from sequencial designations( numbers, entrance letters)

5-Screening:

Systematic searching ( it will for sure lead to a solution, a destination.)

Visual targeting (the simplest wayfinding)

7- Map reading:

Using directions ( it is the probably the best solution when we know where we want to be, that fits quite well in this service, but i am trying to go for something different.)

8-Compassing:

Using compass directions

9-Social navigation:

Learning from others to learn the service).

10- or mix strategies( collect the best of each ones).

We just finished our 4 workshops, and i can say that they were very positive in a general way. We could get several ideas from our "concept problems".

I focus my workshop in "Findability".We had a brainstorm about finding objects in different contexts. Here i had a bigger vision on how people do not find easy what they really want to find. It catch my atention one more time on this problem.I asked which of them to reflect about a object/ product or service that they might consider dificult to find and interact.Then to think about behaviour, scenarios,kinds of needs/desires exists there,how it could actually become part of your everyday experience, and the way they understand that that specific product would affect.
Here i asked them to think about an object in a specific context that they find dificult to find.The results were quite diferents:

This exemple was a glasses. People that uses, use everyday, and the problem was when they go to sleep they put th glasses sometimes in diferent places, and at the morning, that he/she does not see here they are, it is quite dificult to find it.

So, the concept was a button that could make a noise and vibrate, but in discuss we notice that in case the person lose the button , she or he did not have a possibility to find it easily. So, the glasses could talk, like answer(" where are you? i am here"). Quite stupid this idea, but it help me to go through more ideas, because it is a specific object to find, and that is in this "area" that i need to develop my project.

Other ideas, were around:

Supermarket( find the position of the food)

Car in a park(do not remember where did i park)

put petrol in a car(do not know whick gasolina to put)

How to find tools on the workshop.

At home: the control, clothes, specific objects.

This workshop makes me think in a more general way which is good because i was maybe quite focus in one specific concept( library), but also it puted me more confused on where to interact, not just because of mine, but other's workshops that helped me to reflect about others subjects that can be easily combine. It helped me to find new angles.
Was quite interesting to observe that most of the people puted that they get stressful when they do not find the specific object or service.
But... tomorrow will be another day!

I found this workshop a very positive experience. We can get a lot of diferent ideas in several directions at the same time. We had brainstorming,drawing,discussion and presentation.
On the first workshop, from Kyrre, we had to reflect about needs in older people, in a near future. A concept totally diferent from Fan,was about neighbour's relationship.

I'm trying to direct this concept to local applications and services and the RFID and the everyday.
The funtion of this space is destined for a collection of information of any types,for instance, written in shets of paper(book, magazines) or in digital format( cds, dvds). But a library, as a huge place with a lot of information TO SHARE, starts to be use as a place to socialize in different aspects, as we can see in the movie about "Transformation labs-prototyping the future".
The main problem is seeking information( for now)but it will be just the beginning to start observe another areas in a library, such as commun objects,what opportunities,details,how it communicate with me?Motivations.Check every possibilities in this space...

Here i have some existing examples that we can find in a library.

As i said already the context depends in which kind of libraries , if it is for students, if it is a National Library, which targets, location( village or city,diferent interactions).When i think about motivations i realized that curious, specific work and relax seems to be that major motivations,but in the other hand all they like to read and investigate.
While i was discussing this with a friend we found two behaviours that people trend to do in comun which is to go direcly talk to the librarian and ask help, in stead of do the search alone.

I have compared diferent kinds of systems of searchin book in Oslo, and i have in mind to visit, and observe more. It is a good way to get inspiration and get more ideas.

The main problem is this service is exacly to find an object, in this case a book, magazine etc.And seeking information includes looking for and reading( as a need) in order to later find the book( a desire,want).
Legibility,quality, comprehensibility and clarity makes the message easy to read and understand.
What are the variables involved in access control? How should access be visualised for users?with a good communication,clear graphics, light, codes?When does it start being a "friendly service" to a total "unknown friend"?In the moment of the searching for the book starts.What kinds of feedback can we use to make this interaction easier?

I am very interest in areas like "Local applications and services" in order to help in the daily routine of all of us, translating in services that can be usefully in specific situations and actions. Here is very important to do not forget about CONTEXT, the key word."RFID and the everyday" attracts my attention too,to observe diferent kinds of interfaces, how it affect peopleand our social relationship,how does it work, what is the feedback, the emotion,new possibilities, and so on.

After thinking about these 7 concepts, pos and cons, I think that the library, being used by many personsat the same time, should be the most urgent necessity. I talked with varied persons and they all gave me the same answer: ' yes, it is very stressful and a loss of time every time I want request a book. '.
A library is a physical space in which books are guarded. From a more general point of view, it is all the space destined for a collection of informations of any types, they can be written in leaves of paper,or still digitalized and when CD, strips, VHS, DVD and databases were stored in other types of materials, such as.

At this moment, i find this kind of interface, starting by selecting the book that we want till we have it in our hands, causing a lot of confusion, frustation, stressful and so on. This type of interface, with so much potential of simplicity are often very dificult to use.So, i consider this a huge problem.We need a service that helps and do not confuse. A fast, direct and easy service.

People use this kind of space to : relax or to investigate.Is should be a nice place to stay some hours, which i think that it is not a problem right now.

Actions made in a library(from a user and the librarian point of view):

-When we request a book( in the computer)

-When we know the position( and you get the feeling of being lost with so many books around you).

-When we are looking for the book on the right shelf.

- When we give the card with the woman in the reception.

- When we delivery the book(check)

When i start thinking about the "needs" and "wants" of the people, i instantly think about some pratical service or object that could help in the daily routine, in order to simplify actions, less time, and be part of the normal habits that people are used to.This kind of interactions that i have start thinking, are used in different contexts, as social and private, andwith different functions.

The first idea is a key holder. I thought about this because it is a action that it is always happenning and it is so annoying the situation og being losing time when we are late and be looking forthe keys that he know that they are in that specific place, but do not know where...so, this kind of service will be very useful, and pratic( depends on his the interaction).The key holder could start bliniking or vibrating each time we click on a simple button, or when we use a specific service on our mobile that could interact.
And i thought to, about the action that everybody does when we arrive home, in different places off course but, we all put the keys in a specific place normally, as an habit, and it could be the recharger of this service in order to have battery and we do not need to be worried about knowing where is the battery to switch on to have battery and being controlling all the time.So, we could just leave in the place that we put, near the door normally.

I am looking forward to see others students projects to analyse them, how it work and interact, and if it does in a efficient way.

Other idea, is more in a spacial enviroment. It is a interactive wall, with a lot of frames, where we could tag the phone to the frame and pass automactually the photo that we took some minutes ago and we want to expose on the wall. It could be in a coffee, in a restaurant, in a museum, on a big hall, many different places. It would be always changing ambient because of colours and intensity,so it will be very nice visual just to watch and interact.It will be a way of sharing,a nd we can see the social part of this concept, that it is very active.

The theird idea is kind of simple,it is just an interactive post where we can see how many post do we have, if it is full or emply, then we do not need to go looking for the keys, open ect..

This weekend, while i was walking around i notice that people, normally women are a lot of times entering in the bathroom to check if there is a lot of people ect. So, i thought about a "service" that could say when the bathrooms are full, or empty, in order people just look to the icon, from outside, that change the level of color, depending on how much people are inside. So, the user can choose to wait or to continue shopping or what they were doing and come back later.

In libraries, i find always very difficult to find and get the book that i want. I always loose a lot of time in this action, so i think that we could have a service that could simplify this action.I get 2 very differents ideas.

The first one is to have a interactive floor,with guide lines, where the user could write on the computer the book that he/she wants and then a path thought the book could appear on the floor in a different color as the person before.Colors could be a good way of defining the people's different paths.But then i start thinking about how to realise this project and it will probably be very expensive and hard to make because in a normal library we have tousands and tousands of books.And another problem that i had analysed is that people with reduces learning skills may become confused about their direction and return to their point of departure.More than a guideline in the same place may confuse wayfinders.

So, the second concept in order to correct the failures of the previous one, was to have a plant of the library on the computer or near the computer in a digital surface, where it could start bliking a certain position of where is the exacly book that a person needs.Much more pratical, simple,efficient and cheap.

I still thiking about annoying situations that are always happening in my, and everyone's daily routine...that can be very simply revolse.

Several times, while i am in the leaving room i loose the tv command all the time, and i need to search that! So, we could have a simple button on the tv( that is always at the same place and we do not lose) that we could click and then the command could start vibrating and bliking too. It is very simple the feedback but at the same time very efficient.Maybe with wireless it could work.

It is exacly this kind of small situation that put our lives more "annoying"sometimes, and if we could revolse them with good solutions, perfect then!
